In June of 1999, Scott and I found a Chow-Husky mix walking around our sub-division. It appeared as though someone had just "dropped him off" hoping a family would take him in. Well, that family happened to be us, and we appropriately named him "Lucky". We could not keep him; Simba and Chevy are plenty of dog for the two of us. It would have just not been convenient to go camping and travel like we do.
Two weeks later, we still had not found a home for him. We were beginning to lose hope. Finally, we found a wonderful family to adopt him about thirty miles from our house. He now has a loving mom and dad, two brothers, and even some cats to hang out with! It broke our hearts to let him go. Those two weeks were really stressful for us, but I vowed the moment he followed us home that I would not let him down like his other family did.
We were constantly on the phone with rescues, radio stations, and anyone else that may be able to help us find a home for him during those two weeks. Animal control was not an option because I refused to take a chance with him being put down. In the end, we found him a home ourselves. Some rescues were more helpful than others, but I came to realization that despite some of the problems we may have had with people cooperating, everyone involved had one thing in common - the love for an animal. We dedicate this page to our Lucky, and hope that through this story, people will think twice when they see an animal in need. They are unable to help themselves; they offer unconditional love when we help them.
