Accommodation of Students with Special Needs
Beliefs about Education
I believe the following to be true:
In order to successfully educate a special needs student, they must be included in a regular classroom setting whenever possible. This eliminates the feeling of alienation, giving the student a better chance to develop in a normal setting.
Statements of Personal Attitudes:
I personally feel that:
Every student that comes into the classroom has a special need, whether it is physical, mental, or emotional. All students should be treated alike, and given the opportunity to succeed.
Observable Teacher Behaviors:
In my teaching, I will:Accommodate the needs of all special needs students. I will use inclusion as much as possible. I will also try to create a classroom environment where all students can relate to one another and understand the different needs that each one of them have.
Student Guidance
Beliefs about Education
I believe the following to be true:
It is our job as educators to not only guide students through their education, but to also guide them through all their experiences.
Statements of Personal Attitudes:
I personally feel that:
Students are looking for a role model. We need to show students that we are concerned with all of their needs, and not just the educational ones. By doing this, we are becoming one of their role models and guiding them in the right direction.
Observable Teacher Behaviors:
In my teaching, I will:
Get to know my students as much as possible and try to guide them in any situation that they may need help with. I will also have them build a relationship with the school’s guidance counselor and learn to take advantage of the services he/she can provide for them.
